About SGS Winter War Game

Set during the onset of World War II, Winter War is the story of the Soviet Union's attack on Finland from November 1939 to March 1940. The Finns must fight for their borderlands against the powerful enemy, and hope for a timely Allied intervention if they are to survive the onslaught.

The Winter War of 1939-40 was a conflict between the Soviet Union and Finland that lasted just over three months. The Finns were vastly outnumbered but held their own due to their superior quality and ideal defensive positions. Winter War is a Strategy Game Studio recreation of this conflict, where the player must take control of either the Soviets or the Finns and attempt to win the war.

For the Finns, the goal is to hold against the initial onslaught and vastly superior strength of the Soviets long enough to gain the support of Allies and discourage the Russian bear. The Soviets, on the other hand, must use their numbers to overwhelm the Finns and take control of the region. The game event cards create various situations on the diplomatic, military, political, and economic fields, adding an extra level of replayability.

Winter War is a turn-based strategy game, with each turn representing a week between December 1939 and March 1940. The game takes around 2 ½ hours to complete and is designed so that neither side has a clear advantage. Players must use careful strategy and tactics to outmaneuver their opponents, and the outcome of the game can often come down to a few key decisions.
