UBOAT is a WWII-era submarine simulator and survival sandbox game. Players must manage their crew and navigate the perilous seas, all the while managing the limited resources available to them on board their submarine, which could become their grave at any time. Players must work together and make the tough decisions necessary to ensure their survival and ultimately complete their mission.

UBOAT is a unique WWII era submarine simulator that allows players to take on the role of a German sailor. It’s a survival game with crew management mechanics, where the boat serves as their home and their grave. Players must look after their crew’s physical and mental health, as their ability to win even the smallest skirmish relies on it.

The game features an extensive damage system, and players must be prepared to face unexpected situations when their boat receives damage. They must decide whether to save the whole crew or leave someone behind, to save the rest. As their submarine travels through the open seas, players must manage their resources wisely. They must turn off unnecessary devices in order to keep the accumulators running, and keep the crew in their bunks to preserve oxygen. If morale is low, they can try to raise it by playing Skat or listening to nearby radio stations.

Players are also given assignments from the Kriegsmarine headquarters, which are never linear and can present unexpected problems. Completing these assignments rewards them with additional funds and reputation points, which can be used to upgrade their boat and buy new equipment. The game also features an accurate simulation element, with realistic details such as the influence of ballast in each compartment on the ship’s trim, or Earth’s curvature. Players can choose to manage their crew in order to speed up tasks, or take matters into their own hands by sitting behind the periscope, hydrophone, or 88 mm deck gun.
