Players can recreate the type of doodles they used to draw in class instead of paying attention, but this time with an exciting and competitive twist!

Regardless of how you choose to play, it’s essential to assess the battlefield, take cover, and keep an eye on troop positions in order to be victorious. Alternatively, players can switch to “Arcade Mode” and run & gun at will.

As units gain experience and level up during a battle, they become proficient at battle tactics and will go prone to evade danger, hide behind cover when attacking, and dodge incoming rockets and grenades. Ranking up also increases attributes such as stamina, ammo capacity, weapon accuracy, and even how quickly a unit will raise or lower a flag to take over a building. Actions such as running, rolling, and throwing grenades require stamina, and if a unit’s stamina runs out they become exhausted and must wait a short period to catch their breath.

There Will Be Ink features a variety of missions and maps, including the map editor which allows players to design their own battlefields from scratch, the “Quick Battle” option which allows players to choose a few variables using sliders and toggles before jumping into a random map, as well as the procedural campaign generator which produces a series of progressively more difficult missions across a series of landscapes.

Outside of battle, players can use experience points earned during battle to unlock unit-specific and global training and weapon upgrades as well as HQ abilities such as ammo drops, paratroopers, and air strikes. Additionally, the history of a battle is retained by the craters, shells, and red ink spilled on the battlefield, and end-of-battle stats are also available for players to review.

Players can also enjoy up to 8 player local co-op or versus gameplay, as well as online multiplayer using Steam Remote Play Together. There is even a T-Rex with jetpacks and a maniacal Yeti! Additionally, there are weather effects such as rain, wind, and smoke rising from burning buildings and trees.
