Create a Custom Politician
The Political Process Game gives players the option to create a custom politician, allowing them to choose the name, age, and appearance of their character. Players are then able to calculate their political ideology by selecting from over 40 policy positions, each representing a different aspect of their social and fiscal ideology. Players can create any kind of politician they can imagine, giving them the ability to create a backstory and motives for their character.

Choose a District
Players can choose from all 50 states and over 3,000 counties when selecting a district to play in. Each district is unique and based on real life data, and players have the opportunity to customize their world by adjusting over 80 variables, such as voter demographics, ideology, and turnout, district population, poverty rates, and more.

Run for Political Office
Players can run for nine different political office positions across the city, state, and national levels, including school board, city council, mayor, state house, state senate, governor, U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate, and the presidency. Players must use political strategy to defeat their opponents in primary and general elections, creating a campaign platform, knocking on doors, coordinating volunteers, fundraising, holding rallies, conducting polls, and organizing marketing campaigns. When running for the presidency, players must decide how to divide their resources among all 50 states, attempting to win their election and get a majority in congress.

Write Legislation
The Political Process Game offers players the chance to choose from over 80 types of legislation related to taxes, education, crime, health care, poverty, and more. Players can adjust tax rates, decrease Social Security benefits, eliminate food stamps, increase higher education grants, reduce jail lengths, create free community college, and much more. The game simulates the legislative process, giving players the chance to progress legislation through committee hearings, amendments, and voting. Politicians will vote on the legislation based on their unique ideologies and policy positions, and the executive branch (mayor, governor, or president) will decide whether to sign the legislation into law or veto it.

Gain Political Influence
Players gain political points for every election they win and law they pass. These points serve as a representation of their political experience and allow them to join committees, become party or caucus leader, and have a significant impact as a politician. In addition, players have the opportunity to create a budget, determining tax policy and deciding how to distribute tax revenues, as well as choosing which government programs to support and which to eliminate.

Actions Have Consequences
In the Political Process Game, everything players do as a politician has consequences. The things they say on the campaign trail influence voter enthusiasm, which influences voter turnout. Making extreme campaign promises may lose the independent vote, while a platform that is too moderate may result in a primary election loss. How players vote on legislation influences their approval rating, which can determine whether they will have a primary challenger in the next election. The laws that players create can have complex effects by influencing over 100 metrics.
