Another character, Latha Sesame, is a jobless agoraphobe who is addicted to the Trance. Unbeknownst to her, she has become the target of an assassination plot. With no one to trust and her life on the line, Latha must navigate the real world, or "meatspace," and fight against a fate that has silently controlled her existence.

Max Lao, the third protagonist, is a tech-savvy case officer who joined CEL to escape her criminal past. Caught between loyalty to her best friend and partner and her duty as an officer, Max is faced with a difficult decision when she is ordered to apprehend her friend. She must choose between her personal relationships and upholding the law.

As these three characters struggle to save themselves, they will uncover a web of conspiracies that not only threaten their lives but also challenge the very foundations of their beliefs.
