About Mystery at Morgoth Game
Uncover the truth behind the dark forces plaguing Morgoth and confront the mysterious Cabal in this thrilling adventure game, Mystery at Morgoth.
Mystery at Morgoth is a thrilling game set in the world of Qaedon, taking place a thousand years before the cataclysmic events of the Great Cataclysm. As a follow-up to The Curse of Feldar Vale, this game plunges players into the Age of Chaos, a time of strife where humans, greenskins, and various monsters fight for survival.
In the land of Morgoth, the people live in constant fear of an enigmatic organization known as The Cabal. This shadowy group is responsible for spreading terror and darkness throughout the land, but their true leaders remain a mystery. Unpleasant things happen to those who delve too deeply into the workings of The Cabal, so few dare to uncover the truth.
Players can build a party of 4-6 characters to embark on an adventure in Morgoth. Whether seeking fame, fortune, or simply enough coin to put food on the plate, the game offers an old-school gaming experience with its hand-drawn 2D graphics.
If players have completed The Curse of Feldar Vale, they can import their party to continue the adventure seamlessly. Alternatively, they can solve the mystery as a standalone experience with a new party of their choosing. The game offers hours of gameplay with multiple locations to explore and numerous quests to undertake, ensuring an immersive and engaging experience.
When building their party, players can choose from traditional D&D races, including Human, Elf, Dwarf, Half-Elf, and Halfling. Each race brings its own unique strengths and abilities to the table. Players can utilize their warriors to unleash devastating attacks, rogues to navigate unseen, clerics to turn the undead, battlemages for power and magic, mages for pure magical prowess, and even recruit multi-class units like the warrior/rogue.
The game features tactical turn-based encounters on square grids, where every decision counts. Players can engage in battles in various settings, such as overland locations, buildings, or dark dungeons. It is vital to keep the party well-supplied, as hungry heroes do not fight as efficiently as well-fed ones. Exploration is rewarded with hundreds of items to discover, providing valuable resources and equippable gear for the party.
Spellcasters play a crucial role in the party's success, with dozens of spells available for battlemages, clerics, and mages to unleash upon enemies or aid allies. The game's detailed in-game player guides, including the item directory and spell compendium, ensure that players have all the necessary information at their fingertips. Additionally, a help system provides assistance for every spell, item, and ability, making it easier for players to navigate the game's mechanics.
Customization is a significant aspect of the game, allowing players to tailor their gameplay experience. From customizable tooltips to dozens of options that can change the way the game is played, players have the freedom to adapt the game to their preferences. As characters level up through combat experience, players can customize each member of their party, adjusting attributes covering physical quality, abilities, movement, protection, and combat modifiers.
Equipping party members with a wide array of items is essential for success. The game features a variable inventory with up to 23 slots per unit, allowing players to strategically outfit their characters for battle. Additionally, players can build spellbooks for their spellcasters from three Schools of Magic - Arcane, Divine, and Planar.
Throughout the game, players will face numerous foes, many of which are based on original D&D creatures, providing a nostalgic and challenging experience. Dealing with traps, both mechanical and magical, adds an extra layer of complexity to the gameplay. It is crucial to approach each situation with caution and strategic thinking to overcome the obstacles that lie in wait.
Mystery at Morgoth offers new rules and improvements compared to its predecessor, The Curse of Feldar Vale. These additions include the chance of critical hits and misses, combat accuracy, static encounters, death blow mechanics, and more. These new rules enhance the gameplay experience, making battles and encounters even more dynamic and unpredictable.
The game also boasts high-definition maps throughout, immersing players in the richly detailed world of Morgoth. The character generation process has been improved, allowing players to change all stats for new characters. Variable starting stats further add to the customization options available.
With its captivating storyline, immersive gameplay, and a wide array of features, Mystery at Morgoth promises to provide hours of entertainment. Developed by Ian C Pook and published by Paphian Games, this adventure, indie, RPG, and strategy game is set to be released on August 31, 2023. Players can look forward to embarking on a thrilling journey in the land of Morgoth, uncovering the truth behind The Cabal, and exporting their party to the next adventure, The Dark Tower, which is currently in development and set to be released in Q4 2024.
Embrace the challenge, unravel the mystery, and discover the secrets that lie within the dark and treacherous world of Morgoth.
