In Imagine Earth, you take on the role of a space colony manager, tasked with colonizing a planet in real-time and building up a sustainable strategy. You must carefully manage resources, build cities and infrastructure, collaborate with other colonies, and develop a strategy for a successful colonization.

Imagine Earth is a real-time planet simulation and a build up strategy game. You are tasked with exploring and populating distant planets, with the goal of establishing thriving and profitable colonies on a global scale. As the space colony manager, you will have to manage resources and goods in order to maximize growth while still maintaining a healthy ecosystem.

The game pits the profit goals of interstellar corporations against the need to preserve living conditions for your people. Exhaust emissions and ground pollution impact the global climate, and if left unchecked, can cause polar caps to melt and your colonies to be destroyed by rising sea levels. In order to succeed, you must build up great cities and satisfy their resource needs by constructing power plants, farms and factories. You must dig for ideon crystals and research technologies and constructs in order to maintain a healthy and efficient colony.

You will have to deal with threats such as asteroid strikes, twisters, wild fires, volcanoes, and rising sea levels. You must also fend off space raiders, alien investors, and hostile colonies. The game also offers the ability to coexist and trade with natives, merchants, and alien tribes.

The game is set in 2048, when huge corporations have divided Earth among themselves and exploited its natural resources to a large extent. The discovery of ideon crystals allows for journeys into space, and thus for the laws of the market to be spread into the universe.

On each discovered planet, a competition for economic dominance breaks out. To expand your colony and overcome your opponents, you must exploit freely available fossil resources and minerals, as well as sell shares of your colony in order to generate additional income. You can also take over opposing companies by buying up their shares.

The game also features the ability to trade resources and technologies with merchants, technology traders, and other colonies. You must use diplomacy and economic warfare in order to gain an edge over your opponents.

The game offers a global and realtime world experience instead of playing on limited square maps. It features a fully playable and story based campaign with nine planets/missions. There is also a competition game mode with up to five other AI factions with individual agendas. There are over fifty constructs with more than eighty individual upgrades, allowing for a huge range of strategies.

The freeplay mode offers a procedural planet generator for endless worlds and challenges. The planet editor allows for terraforming, building, and customizing individual planets which can be saved and shared. The global climate simulation accounts for local pollution and worldwide emissions and melting polar caps, as well as disasters.
