The game is set in a world that is suffering from a sinister curse that has corrupted the land, and darkness is reigning everywhere. Monsters roam the land, scoundrels loot, cowards flee, and only heroes can emerge to save this fallen world.

As the player, you will lead a team of heroes on a dangerous adventure to save what is left of the world and destroy the root of evil that has taken root. You must choose your heroes carefully, manage their strengths and weaknesses, and lead them on grueling missions that will test their skills and your strategic acumen. As you work to unravel the curses laid upon the lands and defeat the ultimate evil at the heart of it all, you will face tough choices and consequences of your decisions.

Gordian Quest features four Acts that take you from the troubled lands of Westmire to the enigmatic Sky Imperium, in an epic journey to save the land of Wrendia. In addition to the Campaign Mode, there is also a frenetic and fast-paced roguelite mode called Realm Mode. In this mode, you will face unpredictable threats and rewards as you complete five realms. Alternatively, you can take on an endless challenge to see how far you can go. Adventure Mode is an end-game mode where you can explore procedurally generated areas or take on solo challenges.

There are ten heroes to choose from, each with their unique class, skills, and playstyle to form a party of three and bring to adventure. You can play as the Swordhand, Cleric, Ranger, Scoundrel, Spellbinder, Druid, Bard, Warlock, Golemancer, or the Monk. With close to 800 passive and active skills that can be deployed during turn-based battles, players can discover and formulate their favorite combos. Heroes can be upgraded, trained and equipped with a large selection of weapons, armor and enchanted trinkets to enhance their abilities.

Gordian Quest offers high replayability, with procedurally generated maps and dungeons and randomized hero skills making each playthrough different from the last. There are various difficulty levels to choose from, so you can take on hardcore mode for a teeth-gritting permadeath experience, or play more casually where death is only a setback. There is loot galore to be gathered throughout your journey to boost your heroes' abilities. In the future, you will also encounter mysterious items that can bless your heroes but also cripple them with a curse at the same time.

The game has a carryover rewards and progression system that rewards players the more they play. The Artifacts system can benefit Realm Mode, Campaigns, or Adventure Mode.
