This game takes the players to the Eastern Front of the Second World War, from Moscow to Berlin, in a turn-based strategy experience unlike any other. This is a game of epic proportions, with campaigns that can stretch up to 25 turns, and thousands of units on the field, all of them realistically rendered with terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

Players have the option to command either the German or Soviet forces, with the ability to adjust the difficulty level of either side with five different categories of help. If the player opts to play against the AI, they can also watch the AI simulate the war by itself. The game also includes Play by Email and Server based Play by Email Plus systems, making it easy to play remotely with friends.

In Gary Grigsby’s War in the East, the map stretches from 100 miles west of Berlin to the Ural mountains and from 150 miles north of Leningrad in the north to Bulgaria and Baku in the south. The scale of the game is 10 miles per hex, with a maximum of roughly 4000 units in the game database with the ability to create many more. Players can command their units at the Division and Brigade level, with the ability to upgrade aircraft within units or automate the allocation of new aircraft.
