About Diplomacy is Not an Option Game
Experience warfare on an unprecedented scale in Diplomacy is Not an Option, where over 10,000 enemy units will assault your castle walls, and diplomacy is not an option.
Diplomacy is Not an Option is a strategy game that puts you in the shoes of a feudal lord. Born into a life of privilege and power, you have grown bored of the usual pursuits of hunting, tournaments, and feasts with beautiful maidens. You long for a chance to prove your worth in battle, to show your enemies who is truly in charge. When your castle is besieged by hordes of enemy forces, you see this as your chance.
As you step into the role of the Hero, you find yourself facing overwhelming odds. With enemies on all sides, and a king who is more interested in fighting than in governance, there is no hope of resolving this conflict peacefully. You must fight to defend your lands, and prove yourself as a leader worthy of your title.
The game offers an entirely new scale of warfare, with over 10,000 enemy units assaulting your castle walls. Do you have what it takes to save the kingdom? And is the kingdom even worth saving? These are the questions you must answer as you navigate the complex political landscape of this medieval world.
The Law of War is harsh and unforgiving. Your King is a bold and mighty leader who loves nothing more than fighting and drinking. But his neglect of the kingdom's infrastructure and people has led to a groundswell of rebellion. Misled by feckless advisors, the King is ill-prepared to deal with the uprising. You must take up arms to defend your lands from the murderous peasants, and restore stability to the kingdom.
Rumours abound of vast treasures in distant lands, and the King sees this as an opportunity to replenish the palace coffers. But as you set sail to plunder these riches, you soon discover that the native peoples will not be so easily defeated. What could go wrong?
The Physical Laws of the game are rigorously enforced. There are no hit-scan crossbows to be found here. Your archers and siege engines must be placed strategically to hit their targets, and elevation plays a key role in their effectiveness. Thousands of enemy soldiers will advance on your walls, and your archers must fire up and over them, reducing their range and accuracy. Consider your gates, lines of advancement and retreat, and create kill-zones and fall-back positions to get the best from your men.
The world of Diplomacy Is Not an Option is not a kind one. Food can become scarce, and your soldiers can starve on the battlefield. Homes must be protected, diseases managed, and corpses hauled away and buried with respect. If you do not care for your people, you may find yourself overrun with a most unpleasant plague, or with battlements guarded only by the wasting bones of your malnourished soldiers.
A functional army requires a functional economy to support and feed it. Food, Wood, Stone, Iron, and Gold are the foundations of your city's economy, and you must watch your supplies carefully if you are to meet the advancing foe in a timely manner. Gather resources, choose your storage locations, plan your expansions and upgrades with care, and protect your civilian expansions from hostile incursion.
Trade, via the impressive merchant dirigible, offers a lifeline to besieged cities, bringing emergency supplies of food or stone to rebuild the walls. But striking the balance between greedy expansion and security is a delicate dance, and you must manage your resources carefully to succeed.
The game also offers magic as a powerful tool, but one that comes with great risk. Those who dare to tamper with the occult are viewed with suspicion and fear, and with good reason. Magic can be used to summon the dead, trap wayward souls, and call down devastating fireballs on your enemies. But it comes at a cost, and the use of magic must be weighed carefully against the potential consequences.
Diplomacy is Not an Option has been designed with freedom as a core concept. The Endless Mode grants you full access to the tech tree and there are no limitations on how you approach the challenges that the procedurally generated maps provide. Go heavy on walls early, build large armies of cannon-fodder, or pursue the macro game of greedy growth and costly investments. Finding which style grants you the most success is up to you.
The campaign offers you challenges of combat and morality, in a grim and unpleasant world. Few are worthy of your allegiance, and even fewer will trust it. Stupidity and greed lie behind most problems, but here it is far too late to talk it through. At this stage, Diplomacy Is Not an Option!
