Isaac Clarke is an engineer aboard the USG Ishimura, an unsuspecting last line of defense for the remaining living crew. He must face the unknown terrors that lurk in the darkness of deep space with his wits and engineering skills, rather than the weapons typically used by soldiers. He must fight to survive in the terror-filled world of Dead Space.

Isaac Clarke was never the soldier they wanted him to be, but he was the last line of defense for the remaining living crew of the USG Ishimura. What began as a mission to repair the large deep-space mining ship, quickly turned into a nightmarish bloodbath.

The crew had been horribly massacred and infected by some alien scourge, and Isaac was left alone to fight for his life, with no way out. To survive, he needed to strategically dismember his Necromorph enemies limb by limb.

Isaac had to battle in zero gravity, as the terror could come from anywhere, and this helped him to uncover the horrific truth of the shocking thriller. He had to master messy monster slaying, as the Necromorphs were unlike any other enemies he had seen before.

Headshots didn't do much damage, but Isaac had plenty of stopping power in his toolkit. He could send horizontal or vertical blasts of energy at enemies with the Plasma Cutter, remotely control a high-speed sawblade with the Disc Ripper, and fill hallways with wide swaths of destruction with the Line Gun.

He could also switch things up with alternate fire modes, and purchase upgrades to increase ammo, power, and reload speed. As the game progressed, Isaac had to remain vigilant as any action he took, whether it be reloading or digging through his inventory, gave the Necromorphs a perfect opportunity to attack.
