Stranded on an unknown island, you must use your skills to survive. Hunt or tame the exotic creatures you find in the land, while facing off against other players. Can you overcome the challenges of the island and find a way to escape?

Stranded on the shores of a mysterious island, you must learn to survive. With nothing but your wits and the few resources available to you, you must find a way to stay alive in this hostile environment. You must hunt for food, harvest resources, craft items, grow crops, research technologies and build shelters to protect yourself from the elements. But there are more dangers than just the weather. Huge, primeval creatures roam the land, and you may come across other players who may want to help you - or hunt you. In order to survive, you must use your cunning and resources to kill or tame these beasts, and then use them to your advantage.

The land of ARK is filled with a variety of creatures, from the giant brontosaurus to the gentle dodo bird. You can capture and tame these animals using a challenging capture-and-affinity process, involving weakening them and then nursing them back to health. Once tamed, you can issue commands to them, and they may follow depending on how well you’ve trained them. Some can even be ridden and controlled directly, allowing you to soar through the sky on a pterodactyl or chase down prey on the back of a raging T-Rex.

In order to survive in ARK, you must eat and drink to stay alive, with different plants and meats providing different nutritional properties. You must also build fires or shelters to protect yourself from the weather and its extremes of temperature. To help protect against damage, you can craft weapons, clothing and armor, and even customize the look of your character with different hair, eye and skin tones.

You can also explore the world to find rare plant seeds with powerful properties. You can plant these in plots of land you create and water them with fertilizer to help them grow. You can then harvest the fruits of your labor and use them to cook recipes and make tonics. Vegetarians and vegans can also thrive in ARK, as you can master and conquer it without the need for violence.

You may also come across Explorer Notes, which are written by previous survivors of the ARK, detailing the creatures and backstory of the land. By uncovering all of these, you can piece together the true nature of the ARK and discover its purpose. You can also craft items from memory without the use of blueprints, using the engrams system.

In ARK, you can build massive structures composed of snap-linked parts, including ramps, beams, pillars, windows, doors, gates, remote gates, trapdoors, water pipes, faucets, generators, wires and all manner of electrical devices. These structures have a load system which will cause them to collapse if enough support has been destroyed. You can also paint these structures and items to customize the look of your home, as well as placing per-pixel paintable signs and other decorative objects.

You can also summon and fight mythical creatures by bringing rare sacrificial items to special Summon locations. If you defeat them, you will be rewarded with valuable progression items. Furthermore, you can create a Tribe and add your friends to it, so that all your tames can be commanded by and allied to anyone in your Tribe.

Finally, you can even transfer your character, items and tames between servers, using the Obelisk system. You can also design or randomize your own unique procedurally generated ARKs, for infinite replayability and endless surprises.

ARK is an ambitious, daunting and imposing environment, but with your wits and skills, you can make it your home. The challenges are great, but the rewards are even greater. Will you be the one to uncover its secrets and conquer it?
