Apocalyptic Vibes Game is a vintage first-person shooter built on GZDoom that immerses players in a postapocalyptic world full of dieselpunk elements, retro-style realism, and a romantic shoegaze soundtrack.

In a post-apocalyptic world, a lone wanderer is set on a dangerous journey, to challenge the cold and melancholic wasteland. Apocalyptic Vibes is a single-player, immersive first-person shooter with a non-linear narrative, developed by Amanito Computing and set to be released in 2023.

The atmosphere of the game is a mix of dieselpunk, retro-style and realism, with a romantic shoegaze soundtrack to set the mood. Mankind was at the peak of its development, having colonized planets and satellites in their solar system, yet repeated global wars and man-made disasters plunged the earth into agony. It is now up to the player to traverse the wasteland, searching for resources, weapons, and equipment.

The combat in Apocalyptic Vibes consists of four main types of weapons – a knife, a revolver, and two guns of your choice. Examples of guns include machine guns, carbines, shotguns, and rifles. Each weapon has its own unique tricks, such as being able to cock the revolver, shoot double-shots with a shotgun, or use a bayonet. As the enemies are merciless, a few shots are enough to take down the player, making it imperative to master the arsenal in order to survive.

The player will also have to face the harsh post-apocalyptic weather, including toxic rain, storms, and fogs. This can be countered with a hood to protect from the toxic rain, and a gas mask to protect from poisonous fog. Wayposts with a radio receiver can be used to check the weather forecast and stock up on filters and resources beforehand. Provisions and medicines must also be kept in the inventory to restore health.

Dialogues and radio communication are essential parts of the gameplay and story, allowing the player to negotiate with characters, get tasks, and even just chat. While walking through the frequencies, messages, music, pictures and videos can be found.

The game is powered by GZDoom, a modern port of the classic Doom engine, and has a ‘retrorealism’ style; photo-textures and realistic sound combined with classic level architecture and sprite graphics.
