Ultimate Space Commando (USC) is a free turn-based game set in a sci-fi universe. In this top-down view tactics game, you take control of the crew of a stranded recon vessel as they battle for survival in a "first contact war". The game features a detailed combat system with RPG elements, fully interactive randomized maps, unique weapons and gadgets, crafting, and custom multiplayer modes.

USC draws inspiration from classic top-down view games and combines strategy and role-playing elements. The Campaign mode offers a semi-randomized experience with multiple ending possibilities. You will follow and control the fate of the crew of the U.S.C. Wraith, a recon vessel stranded on an isolated mining planet. The crew faces a challenging "first contact" scenario with an alien horde. Throughout the Campaign mode, you will unravel hidden aspects of the story and try to save all your men or defeat the aliens. The mode consists of 30+ semi-randomized missions where you gather resources and item blueprints in an attempt to contact Earth.

One of the key features of USC is its fully interactive randomized combat environment. Every element on the map is interactive in some way. You can gather ammo, credits, blueprints, or items from crates, loot vending machines for refreshments, seal blast doors to prevent alien intrusions, hack locked doors in a mini-game, use flammable objects to burn enemies, find switches to unlock special areas, move objects to create barricades, bring down walls for an escape route or advantage, and avoid various hazards. The maps are randomly generated and feature three distinct environments.

The game also offers detailed combat mechanics and squad management. USC features a unique combat system based on four combat stats: Health, Morale, Action Points, and Armor. There are nine RPG-like attributes such as weapon class proficiencies, reaction, and electrotechnics. Additionally, there are various attack properties like accuracy, impact force, and armor penetration. You can choose from 18 weapons, over 30 gadgets (e.g., medikits, weapon & armor mods, cloaking device, deployable auto-turret), and even prototype weapons and craftable-only special items. Your units gain experience in the Campaign mode, and your customized squads can also progress with their gear in other game modes.

In addition to the Campaign mode, there are various custom game modes available. The "Defend the Base!" mode allows you to build your own base, manage resources, and fight multiple waves of aliens. You can also play fully customizable Single Missions where you can specify the objectives, map size, difficulty, and other parameters. USC supports multiplayer gameplay as well. You can play with friends either over TCP/IP protocol or in hot-seat mode for up to four players. The multiplayer modes include co-op PvE, PvP, and mixed PvPvE games.

The game's original soundtrack and exceptional sound effects contribute to the immersive experience. The original sci-fi horror audio experience is composed by Dima Arktor and designed by Eugene Black. With 16+ original music tracks, terrifying ambients, and custom-rendered high-quality sound effects, the game offers a complete audio package.

USC features an AI opponent unlike any before. The alien horde you face is relentless. Each enemy type has its special abilities, and the AI will try to outmaneuver you. The AI can flank you through walls, destroy your supplies, draw your defense fire with lesser units, or even devour them to reach you. There are seven different alien species with special abilities like "Champion", "Warbred", and "Alpha" that will stop at nothing to slaughter you if you make a mistake.

The game also includes a Hall of Fame where Campaign playthroughs, PvE Single Missions, and Defend the Base! sessions are evaluated for score and merit. To score higher, you need to not just survive but also become faster, smarter, and plan your actions carefully to complete more sub-objectives. Achieving a good score unlocks special craftables and brings a sense of pride.

USC allows you to customize your squads with custom unit portraits, squad logos, and callsigns. By completing Defend the Base! waves and collecting materials in other missions, you can earn permanent bonuses for your squad. These bonuses enable you to combat higher difficulties and potentially gain an edge over other players in PvP.

As a fun addition, the game features Rubber Duckies. These model RD-1 Rubber Duckies are supplied to troops as a morale booster and emergency insulator material. They add a touch of cuteness and usefulness to your journey.
