The world has been thrown into chaos as wars have ravaged the land for decades. In a last-ditch effort to put an end to the bloodshed, the mages unleashed The Cataclysm, which resulted in massive balls of pure magic destroying nearly everything. The aftermath of the disaster is a strange purple mist that envelops the world, with hordes of bloodthirsty mutants emerging at night. The only hope for humanity is to banish all magic from the world by casting The Last Spell, but it requires several days of uninterrupted incantation, during which the few remaining heroes must protect the mages.

The Last Spell is a tactical RPG with roguelite elements that challenges players to defend a city against hordes of deadly enemies. During the day, players must prepare their heroes, rebuild their Haven, and position their defenses. At night, they must exterminate all the monsters that come at their walls using a range of weapons and skills. The objective is to hold out until the Magic Seal is broken.

The game offers a complete RPG experience, with a flurry of stats, skills, perks, and traits, among other things. There are tons of items to choose from, including armors, weapons, trinkets, and potions, each with its own stats and skills, as well as optional random modifiers. Each weapon has its own skillset and playstyle, allowing players to build their own classes and upgrade their heroes with stat bonuses and perks.

Managing the squad of heroes requires careful planning, as they are strong but few, with access to limited resources. Healing and mana are scarce, so players must find a good balance. Protecting the Haven is essential to survival. Players must rebuild the city to help them in between fights, heal themselves, forge new magical weapons, and recruit new heroes. They must also build up their defenses using walls, traps, towers, catapults, and any other help they can get. Protecting the Magic Circle is crucial, as losing it means humanity is doomed. There are five Havens to protect, each with its own setup and challenges that require players to tailor their strategy to beat the Great Evil.

The game also incorporates roguelite elements, which means that players will fail a lot. However, each time they fail, they will grow harder, better, faster, and stronger. The game features procedurally generated enemy waves, characters, weapons, and a ton of unlockables to keep players entertained until the real world collapses. Players can tailor each run using the Omens, a limited amount of bonuses that can be picked for the upcoming run. They can choose more Action Points, more characters, sturdier defenses, better loot, or experiment to find their preferred tools of destruction. The difficulty can be scaled to players' liking, with six levels of Apocalypse to entertain even the most crazy hardcore players.
