The Classrooms is a unique and mysterious survival horror game that puts the player inside a procedurally generated and ever-changing world full of anomalies, dangers, and surprises. Players assume the role of Robert Chen, who in 1996 takes a VHS camcorder to a newly-condemned local public school to investigate the disappearances of multiple students, including his younger sister. However, shortly after entering the premises, he finds himself lost in a seemingly infinite maze of halls and classrooms.

Entities range from harmless to extremely dangerous and players will need to investigate their various properties in order to survive. Every entity has its own unique set of mechanics, goals, and behaviors that makes them unique and dangerous.

The game also features a variety of features to help players survive. The Proximity Voice feature means that sound from the players input device can affect the game world and make loud noise which can reveal their location to certain entities. An inventory system allows the player to find and use various different types of items, codex entries, keys, and equipment.
