Strategic Command: American Civil War is a new game in the series that transports players to the 19th century battlefields of the American Civil War. Players will be able to control armies, research, production, and diplomatic policy of either the Union or the Confederacy as they battle for control in a time of innovation and dramatic battles.

The American Civil War is a time in history that is filled with immense drama, tragedy, and innovation. The conflict between the Union and the Confederacy was a defining moment in the nation's history, and it is now being brought to life in the newest installment of the Strategic Command series. In Strategic Command: American Civil War, players will be able to control the armies, research, production, and diplomatic policy of either the Union or the Confederacy in order to determine the fate of the nation.

The game comes with a massive 66,000 hex map that covers all of North America from Canada and New Mexico to the Caribbean. This is the largest hex-based map ever offered by the Strategic Command series, giving players the opportunity to explore the full scope of the conflict in great detail. Players will be able to command their armies, from the volunteer forces at the beginning of 1861 to the eventual formation of Brigades, Divisions, and Corps. Recruiting and training will be essential in order to improve the weaponry and fighting skills of the soldiers, and talented Generals will be needed in order to lead them into battle.

The great rivers of North America, such as the Mississippi, Ohio, and Cumberland, will also be included in the game, with all-new river warships that can be navigated and inland ports that can be used for rapid movement. The war on the high seas will also be expanded, with ships divided into rivercraft, coastal and sea-going vessels, and wooden and ironclad construction. Players will have more opportunities than ever before to achieve victory at sea.

Reconnaissance will be a key factor in the game, as the lack of radio communications means that cavalry will be essential for locating enemy armies and avoiding ambush. Infantry scout detachments, partisan rangers, and armoured trains can also be trained to expand the recon capabilities of the armies, while Generals will have the opportunity to use observation balloons in order to take the war to the skies.

Diplomatic action and battlefield success will also determine whether the European Great Powers intervene in the Civil War, with the UK, France, and Spain potentially supporting the Confederate cause. The front lines in Mexico, where the French Emperor Napoleon III is engaged in a battle for control of the country, will also be constantly changing and players will have the chance to take up the flag of the Republic or the Empire as the Civil War grows into a conflict to determine the fate of all of North America.

The game also includes all of the beloved features from previous titles in the series, including an enhanced version of the engine used by other Strategic Command games. It also comes with an Editor that will enable players to make their own campaigns or mods, as well as official mods that allow players to choose between two brand new map styles and the "classic" style used in previous games.
