Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion is a stand-alone expansion to the Sins of a Solar Empire series, which combines 4X depth with real-time strategy gameplay. Developed by Ironclad Games and published by Stardock Entertainment, the game was released on June 12, 2012, and is available on multiple platforms.

The game takes place in a distant future where three factions, Trader Emergency Coalition, Advent Unity, and Vasari Empire, are battling for control of the galaxy. After years of war, differing opinions on how to proceed and depleted resources have led to a splintering of the groups involved. The factions are divided into loyalist and rebel factions, each with their own unique technology, ships, and play style.

The Trader Emergency Coalition adopts a policy of isolation and focuses on enhanced defenses to ride out the rest of the war. The rebels, on the other hand, take on a militant view and believe that the only way to bring peace is by crushing all who oppose them. The Advent Unity is divided for the first time in their history, with the loyalists seeking to continue their policy of revenge against the Traders and assimilating all others to the Unity's influence. The Vasari Empire is less pronounced but just as severe to their people, with the loyalist faction abandoning cooperation and deciding to take the resources they need by any means necessary.

The game features new factions, including Loyalist and Rebel factions, each with their own unique technologies, ships, and play styles. The game also introduces Titan Class Warships, which are mighty titans that can tip the scales of power on the battlefield. Each faction may field their own unique titan, drawing upon unique strengths and abilities on the battlefield.

In addition to new factions and titans, the game features updated capital ships. A new capital ship joins the fleet for each race to offer even more tactical options, and all existing capital ships have been upgraded to four levels for their abilities, allowing players to focus their ships along specific strengths. The game also introduces Corvette Class Ships, which are small and maneuverable and are used to harass enemy forces.

The game features updated visuals, including updated graphics, particle effects, lighting and shadows, race-specific UI, and other enhancements, making the Sins universe look better than ever. The game also features new victory conditions, including military, diplomatic, research, last flagship standing, last capital standing, and occupation.

The game also features new audio, including more than 60 minutes of original music, countless new sound effects, and dozens of new voice overs, helping to bring the drama of battle to new levels of immersion.
