One Hour One Life is a multiplayer survival game in which you are born to another player as your mother, and have one hour to live an entire life. You can have babies in the form of other players and help to rebuild civilization from scratch, leaving a legacy for the next generation.

Developed by Jason Rohrer, One Hour One Life has been in development for more than three years. Every aspect of the game, from the graphics to the music and sound effects, has been carefully crafted by Rohrer himself. The game is huge, with over 1300 objects that can be crafted and interacted with, and these are continually updated with weekly updates, making it the largest and most comprehensive crafting game in history.

Upon joining the server, players are born as a newborn baby and are dependent on their ‘mother’ for survival. For a mother to waste her time and resources to keep her baby alive, she must know that her accomplishments in her own lifetime will have meaning. As such, when the baby survives into adulthood, they will have the opportunity to have babies of their own, thus continuing the legacy of their mother.

The game world starts out as a wilderness, and it is up to the first generation of players to build the foundation of civilization. This starts with primitive tools and making basic foods, and as generations progress, more advanced technology such as metalworking, permanent buildings and transportation networks will become available. It is important, however, to ensure that these resources are managed carefully, as they can easily be squandered, leading to an eventual collapse.

Players can play with their friends as twins, triplets, or quadruplets, with the aim of surviving as a team. It isn’t easy, however, as taking care of four babies at once is no small task. Players will have to work together to ensure the survival of each other.

The game is hosted on Jason Rohrer’s own centrally-managed, persistent servers, and purchasers are given a lifetime account on these official servers. The full source code, including the server code, is available for players to access and run their own private servers.

The game has been incredibly popular, with thousands of players logging over 400,000 hours so far. There have been 94% positive off-Steam player reviews, with dozens of players logging over 500 hours each.
