Junkyard Truck is a challenging open-world off road driving and mechanic simulator. Players can build, upgrade, and maintain their own old off road truck while earning money through driving, scavenging, gambling, and moonshine brewing. As they progress, the truck must be upgraded to take on increasingly difficult challenges throughout the map.

The game features a fully integrated stock engine and drivetrain with over 60 parts, as well as a swappable V8 engine with even more parts and aftermarket parts. Players can upgrade their parts, such as EFI conversion, headers, drive gears, turbochargers, and off-road tires. The engine and drivetrain are fully responsive, and will give auditory feedback on part failure, temperature, or fluid issues.

In addition to driving, there are miles of off-road trails and roadways to explore. Players have the freedom to play how they want, taking on challenging off-road races, rock crawls, hill climbs, and long jumps. If players are not skilled in mechanics, the truck comes with a fully illustrated service manual, and the town mechanic can provide inspections or repairs.

Players can also make money with heavy delivery missions, rescue missions, collecting junk around the map for recycling, logging, mining, and playing Texas Hold'em at the pub. The game features a day and night cycle, requiring players to maintain their food, hydration, and sleep. The softbody physics also adds a realistic element to the game.
