In November 2008, NATO intelligence services received news that the Russian military had destroyed GORKY 17, an old Soviet 'Secret City'. A year later, NATO took control of a former Russian secret base on Polish soil, where they discovered a laboratory complex in the now completely demolished town.

Gorky 17 is an RPG/strategy game developed by Topware Interactive ACE and released in 2013. It tells the story of a NATO mission to investigate the mysterious destruction of the old Soviet "Secret City" of Gorky 17 by the Russian military. Players take the role of a NATO team of three specialists led by the Canadian Cole Sullivan.

In the game, players explore the desolate town of Gorky 17, searching for clues to the mystery of its destruction. Along the way, they will face hordes of grotesquely deformed creatures, as well as the daunting task of surviving the town's dangerous environment.
