In Empires and Tribes, a role-playing game and city builder hybrid, you take on the role of mayor in the 13th century. You must manage your city's growth, secure resources and build a powerful army to protect yourself from enemy forces. You will have to use all your strategic prowess to ensure your city and its citizens remain safe from harm.

Empires and Tribes is a unique hybrid of a medieval city builder and a role-playing game that takes place in 13th century Europe. You take control of a mayor and must manage the expansion and production of resources, develop new technologies, negotiate with the city council and protect your settlement by constructing castles and fortifications. Showing your leadership and diplomatic skills is essential to maintaining your place in the world of Empires and Tribes.

Your duties as mayor include planning and expanding your settlement, tapping into natural resources and creating residential areas. You must also build public buildings such as chapels and taverns, recruit units, construct siege weapons and battle four hostile principalities. In addition to city planning and economic decisions, you will be engaged in political power struggles and negotiate laws with the city council.

The game features three population levels - peasants, craftsmen and townsmen - each with different needs. There is also a complex economic cycle with over 20 goods and 35 buildings, some of which are upgradeable. You can expect large battles and sieges with more than a hundred units involved, and 6 different combat unit types such as swordsmen, archers, knights and trebuchets.

The game also features an AI which develops its city depending on the given conditions and attacks the player if necessary. There is a simulated daily routine of the NPC’s and 19 different professions for the city population, as well as simulated day-night cycle and variable weather. You will also experience various disasters such as fires and lightning, and events such as bandits, sale of indulgences or mendicant monks.

Crafting of tools, weapons and all resources and trade goods used in the game is possible, as well as a skills system, equipment and inventory for the player. You can also interact and communicate with the NPC’s.
