By discovering nails in the world, you can enhance your weapon's damage. Defeating monsters with spines allows you to add them to your weapon for additional damage. If you manage to slay a bee, you can attach its abdomen to your weapon, poisoning enemies over time with its stinger. All these modifications can be made seamlessly during gameplay. Additionally, equipment stones can be slotted into the two additional slots to improve your character's stats. Edward can also wear helmets and shields, which can have up to three equipment slots available.

Crafting plays a significant role in Edward's Journey. You can create a wide array of items, including potions and food, near cauldrons. Many other items can be crafted anytime, provided you have the necessary materials in your inventory. Crafting helmets and shields is essential, and you can discover recipes for crafted items throughout the world. These recipes are automatically added to Edward's crafting window when picked up, but you can also experiment and figure out recipes on your own.

Edward starts off as an inexperienced fighter, but he learns and develops his skills as he progresses towards finding his sister. Sticks serve as his primary weapons, initially granting basic swinging attacks. However, as Edward levels up or encounters NPC trainers, he can learn more advanced maneuvers. By attaching magic runes to his sticks, he gains the ability to unleash powerful magical bursts. For instance, affixing a fire rune allows him to shoot fireballs and inflict fire damage over time on enemies. An ice rune can freeze enemies temporarily while dealing continuous damage. Runes can also be added to Edward's action bar, enabling area-of-effect damage. Magic runes consume Magic Points (MP) when used. If a rune is equipped on a weapon and Edward runs out of MP, the ranged attack is disabled, although it still deals damage over time when enemies are in melee range.

Equipping a shield enables Edward to block a percentage of incoming damage by raising it in a defensive stance. Additionally, Edward can dash to swiftly evade enemy attacks. However, dashing and performing powerful attacks deplete his stamina bar.

Fishing is a prominent feature in Edward's Journey, with the ability to fish in nearly every body of water. To begin fishing, Edward must first craft a fishing rod and gather worms as bait. Fishing offers several benefits, including catching fish that can be made into fish soup at a cauldron, gradually restoring Edward's Magic Points. Additionally, fishing yields various items like jewels, health hearts, and other crafting materials.

Throughout the world, you can discover treasure maps that lead you to hidden riches. Each map provides a clue pointing you in the direction of the treasure. Once you locate the correct spot, a large 'X' appears on the ground, indicating where you should dig. Crafting a shovel is necessary for digging, and you are free to excavate in most areas, uncovering a plethora of surprises. Although it's mostly worms you'll unearth, who knows what other treasures lie buried beneath the surface?

Pets are another exciting aspect of Edward's Journey. You can encounter and adopt various pets throughout the world. Each pet offers unique benefits while summoned.
