Distant Worlds 2: Factions - The Galaxy Expands is a space exploration game that recently introduced two new, playable factions – the peaceful Ikkuro and the devious Dhayut. With this new addition, players will now be able to explore the universe while experiencing the unique playstyles of both of these factions.

The Galaxy Expands! For the first time since the release of Distant Worlds 2, two new playable factions have been added to the game – the peaceful Ikkuro and the devious Dhayut. With the addition of these two new factions, the game will be enhanced with new stories, unique locations, and unique mechanics.

The Ikkuro are focused on happiness, growth, and harmony. They use a combination of technology and biology to create self-repairing ships that are able to use their understanding of the various galactic biomes and unique terraforming facilities to achieve unprecedented levels of habitability. To further enhance their capability, they have bonuses to Damage Control, Plague Curing, and Troop Recovery. The Ikkuro use a Harmonious Utopia Government which focuses on happiness and increases immigration, recreation, and medical capabilities. They use Consensus Diplomacy which makes them slower to agree to treaties, but value long-term relationships more. The Ikkuro do not have access to Bombardment weapons, instead they have Biome Shaping facilities which replace the default Terraforming Facilities. They also have a unique SF27 Organic Hull which has the best self-repair of all ships, Fusion Beams which have an increased rate of fire for beam weapons, and Splinter Pods which have a longer range for assault pods. Lastly, the Ikkuro have larger Colony Ships and special exclusive Leader and Ambassador traits focused on happiness, diplomacy, and growth.

The Dhayut are master deceivers and paranoid schemers. Their fast ships bring mistrust and slavery wherever they are found as their ability to infiltrate other societies allows them to manipulate other empires in ways that others cannot hope to achieve. Their Surveillance Oligarchy Government focuses on sensors and adds a unique Internal Stabilization intelligence mission which reduces war weariness and corruption. They have bonuses to Hyperdrive Research, War Weariness, and Ground Attack Strength. The Dhayut have access to two special Intelligence Missions: Influence Empire and Capture Base. Influence Empire allows them to shift the relationship of two other empires relative to each other, and Capture Base allows them to take control of another empire’s space station. They have a unique Enslavement Control Facility which improves the Slavery Population Policy, and a special Terminal Operations Center Facility which improves success chances on difficult Intelligence missions. They also have a unique VelocityDrive Hyperdrive which is the fastest hyperdrive in the galaxy, larger Monitoring Stations, and special exclusive Leader and Spy traits focused on counter-espionage, slavery, and assassination. Lastly, their paranoia leads to periodic purges of disloyal members of Dhayut society.
