Civil War: 1864 is a strategy game that takes players back in time to experience the American Civil War like never before. The year 1864 saw the Union army making substantial gains against the Confederate forces in the American Civil War. Under the leadership of General Grant, who replaced Halleck, the Union army took the risky gamble of attacking the Confederates on three different fronts. While Grant failed to gain any significant tactical advantage in any battle against Robert E. Lee, he succeeded in depleting Lee’s forces. On the Western front, General Sherman was able to capture Atlanta and seize Savannah. The Union’s control of the railways and waterways gave them an immense logistical advantage, which would become vital to the North’s eventual success. The Confederacy was ultimately fighting a losing defensive war.

In Civil War: 1864, players have the opportunity to relive the battles of this critical year in American history. The game features high-definition graphics that bring the battles to life in stunning detail. There are seven missions in the tutorial campaign that will help players get familiar with the game mechanics. The game also features a four-mission abstract ‘Division’ campaign, a seven-mission ‘Cold Steel’ campaign, a seven-mission ‘Duty and Pride’ campaign, a seven-mission Blockade campaign, a seven-mission ‘Freedom Calls’ campaign, and an eight-mission ‘Road to Atlanta’ campaign. All missions can be played as both sides, except for the tutorial.

Players can choose from eight unique Civil War units, including infantry with muskets, infantry with rifled muskets, artillery, generals, wagons, naval gunboats, dismounted cavalry, and mounted cavalry. There are four classes of infantry – Raw, Average, Veteran, and Elite – and different infantry formations to choose from, including unformed, line for shooting, and column for charging.

The game features detailed combat analysis, allowing players to analyze their performance and make adjustments as needed. Flank attacks and strategic movement are also possible, giving players the opportunity to outmaneuver their opponents and gain the upper hand in battle.
