Set in a French coastal village seemingly cut off from the rest of the world, Broken Pieces is a psychological thriller that requires players to piece together the mysteries of the village by solving an enigma. It is up to the players to uncover the secrets that lie beneath the surface and put the pieces of the story back together.

Broken Pieces is a psychological thriller set in a mysterious French coastal village. Players take on the role of Elise, a woman in her thirties who is suddenly and inexplicably alone in this isolated village. Surrounded by strange phenomena, Elise must investigate and unravel the secrets of this place, uncovering its mysterious rituals, cults, and lighthouses while braving the post-Cold War climate.

Developed by a team of five, Broken Pieces is the first game from the French game development studio Elseware Experience. Players will get to explore the area of Saint-Exil and its surroundings in the 1990s, using either a standard third-person shooter camera system or a revised version of the camera system that accompanied legendary game franchises of the 90s, which provides greater flexibility and player agency. Switching between two camera angles or dropping into a first-person view, players can interact with the environment to uncover hidden secrets and progress through the story. Along the way, cinematic sequences will punctuate the action and provide insight into the narrative.

The game features an array of investigative and puzzle-solving elements, such as a vintage arcade machine, tapes which can be fast-forwarded and rewound to uncover clues, and a watch which keeps track of time until nightfall. Players will also have to manage inventory capacity and craft ammo to upgrade their gun, in order to better face the challenging enemies. In addition, the weather in Saint-Exil can be changed to forge new paths or solve puzzles, and health can be restored with a drink from the fridge, a nap on a bench, or a night in bed.

Accompanying the player on their journey is the beautiful original soundtrack composed by Pierre for Élise. With an estimated playtime of between nine to twelve hours, Broken Pieces is a thrilling and atmospheric adventure game set in a unique and mysterious French village.
